Do you remember what a biome is? A biome, or ecosystem, is a climate region that's home to certain groups of plants, animals, and soil. So far, you've learned about three biomes: desert, tundra, and rainforest.
But there are many other types of biomes. In this lesson, you will learn about the aquatic, wetlands, grasslands, and forest biomes. First, review the characteristics of the desert, tundra, and rainforest biomes. Then, use the links below to explore the other biomes, or learn about them in books at your local library.
Aquatic Biome
Water makes up more than 70% of Earth's surface. Aquatic regions have lots of species of plants and animals, both large and small. Although water temperatures can vary widely, aquatic areas tend to be more humid, and the air temperature is usually on the cooler side.
The aquatic biome can be broken into two basic types of regions: freshwater and marine.
