4. Termites make the largest insect nests. Some of their nests are 20 feet tall! The termites mix soil and saliva to build their nests. The mixture dries as hard as brick. Termites build ducts and tunnels in the soil so that air can circulate.

Optional Activity: Termite Castle Project

Get a piece of board, mix together equal parts salt and flour, and add  enough water to make dough that is not too sticky. Now, you're ready to make a termite castle with tunnels, fungus gardens, and rooms! Roll out the dough, and begin to carve out the rooms. Let the dough harden, and then paint your termite castle!
