What methods do sitcoms use to advance the plot?

Have you ever watched a show and just as the action is heating up, it cuts to commercial? You probably waited excitedly for the show to return after the commercial break. Screenwriters often end each scene with a hook, or a slight twist, to keep viewers interested. Act 2 of The Juice leaves the reader with many questions.

Viewers know quite a bit about Frank and Gary—they own a juice bar and are matchmakers—but much is still unknown. What is their relationship with the other characters? How does Todd fit into the story, and how will Candi react to Ben's designs?

Read Act 3 of The Juice. As you read, notice how the action is building to the conflict of the story and how the writer uses humor to build up to the climax.

Since a sitcom must move quickly from the conflict to resolution, the dialogue is deliberate and purposeful.
