Imagine what one of these early Puritans might say.

What if you could visit America as it was in the 1600s and meet some of its religious leaders in person? What would they have to say about life as a Christian in the New World?

Imagine that you attend a sermon delivered by Jonathan Edwards or that you visit with Anne Hutchinson and allow her to explain to you why she doesn’t agree with the Puritan leaders in her colony. Record in your journal what one of these outspoken authors might say about his or her impressions of life in the American colonies. Include passages from Edwards’s sermon or Hutchinson’s argument as reported by John Winthrop in his journal. Be sure to punctuate these direct quotations correctly.
