Do you know any people who seem obsessed with how they look? That description could apply to Curtis, the next narrator of Seedfolks. Underneath this obsession is a deeper longing, though, and Curtis is determined to get what he wants.
Look for the same information in Curtis’s story that you just identified in Sae Young’s chapter: a backstory, key plot events, and evidence of the novel’s theme or overall message. Also, notice how Curtis “speaks” to readers. (You’ll probably find his voice pretty entertaining.)
Read the chapter titled “Curtis” in Seedfolks before going on to the next page in this lesson.
As you read, see if you can answer these questions for yourself:
What is Curtis’s backstory? Is he like anyone you know? |
What does Curtis hope to gain when he plants a little garden on Gibb Street? Will his plan work? |
