You are able to sort and classify by various
characteristics. A Venn diagram is made with two overlapping
circles like the picture shown on the right. Each circle
shows one characteristic and the middle where they overlap
means those characteristics fit in both categories.
Let's look at some examples. Notice the characteristics
used to sort and how the middle represents two
characteristics at a time:
Let's look at this group of teddy bears. How could we
sort them and create a Venn diagram?
We will use the two characteristics of "White" and
"Wears a Hat" for the circles. Type how many teddy bears
will be on the side that says "White." How many teddy
bears will be in the "Wears a Hat" circle? How many
teddy bears will be in the middle of the two circles?
How many teddy bears are both white and are wearing a
hat?
