You are able to sort and classify by various characteristics. A Venn diagram is made with two overlapping circles like the picture shown above. Each circle shows one characteristic and the middle where they overlap means those characteristics fit in both categories.

Let's look at some examples. Notice the characteristics used to sort and how the middle represents two characteristics at a time:
Let's look at this group of teddy bears. How could we sort them and create a Venn diagram?
We will use the two characteristics of "White" and "Wears a Hat" for the circles. Type how many teddy bears will be on the side that says "White." How many teddy bears will be in the "Wears a Hat" circle? How many teddy bears will be in the middle of the two circles? How many teddy bears are both white and are wearing a hat?
