What are the highest mountains on Earth?

A mountain is a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill.High elevations of mountains produce colder climates than at sea level. These colder climates strongly affect the ecosystem of mountains, and different elevations have different plants and animals. Because of harsher terrain and climate, mountains tend to be used less for agriculture and more for recreation such as mountain climbing.
The highest mountain on Earth is Mount Everest, which is located in the Himalayas of Asia. Its summit is 29,035 feet above sea level. Also part of the Great Himalayas mountain chain are K2 (28,251 feet above sea level) and Kangchenjunga (28,169 feet above sea level), the second and third highest mountains on Earth respectively. The fourth highest mountain is Lhotse (27,940 feet above sea level), pictured above. Lhotse means "south peak” in Tibetan.
