Plains are usually the flat and low surfaces of Earth.

Plateaus are large, level areas of land that are more than 2,000 feet high. Both plains and plateaus are flat, but plateaus are higher.

Hills are usually a few hundred feet above their surroundings.

Mountains are formed by movements deep within Earth that cause land to be pushed up. Mountains have elevations that are higher than hills.
