Scientists have classified the world ocean into five separate oceans. Do you know what they are called? Think about it, and see how many you can name. Then click the slideshow to see how you did and to learn more about the five oceans.

The Pacific Ocean lies between Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. It's the largest of the world's oceans.

The Atlantic Ocean is between Africa, Europe, North America, and South America. It's the second largest of the world's oceans.

The body of water between Africa, Asia, and Australia is the Indian Ocean. It's the second smallest of the world's oceans.

The body of water between Europe, Asia, and North America, north of the Arctic Circle, is the smallest ocean and called the Arctic Ocean.

The southern portions of the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean are together called the Southern Ocean. This ocean is the body of water between 60 degrees south latitude and Antarctica. Scientists designated this portion of the Earth's oceans as a unique ocean in the year 2000, so it is the most recently named ocean.

This map shows all five of Earth's oceans.
