Franklin Roosevelt ran against Herbert Hoover in the 1932 presidential election. Many people were upset and blamed Hoover for the Great Depression. Roosevelt vowed to make changes that would improve the economy. In this election, 472 of the 531 electoral votes went to Roosevelt.

The New Deal was created during the first 100 days that Roosevelt was in office. This was a series of programs intended to help America recover from its economic woes, as well as new agencies that were meant to protect citizens. Part of the New Deal was the 3 R's.
