People have been studying our moon for thousands of years. The movements of the earth and moon have inspired our ideas about time.The amount of time it takes the earth to spin on its axis is 24 hours, and we call this a day. The amount of time it takes the moon to circle the earth is called a month. The amount of time it takes the earth to move around the sun is called a year.
The sun lights up half the earth at a time. While one half of the earth is experiencing night, the other half experiences day.
