Checking Your Division Problem
When you complete a division problem, it’s nice to know if your answer is correct.

You could check the division problem on a calculator, but the calculator won’t give you a remainder. It will automatically change your remainder to a decimal, something you will learn at a later time. So, you need to be able to check your answer yourself.
To do this, we'll look at the answer from one of the problems on a previous page:

You have heard in the videos that division is the opposite of multiplication. Because these operations are opposites, we can use multiplication to check our division problems.
To check to see if your quotient is correct, first multiply the quotient (575) by the divisor (7). Then add the remainder (4). If your answer matches the dividend, then your answer is correct.
