George Washington
George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was well liked by the people and served two terms from 1789 to 1797. Washington helped define the role of what a president should do in office. Some of the traditions he established are still followed today. He established a presidential cabinet of advisors and had them use the Bible to take the oath of office. He also made Thanksgiving an official national holiday. Washington had a huge influence on what the role of the president should be. Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton was the chief staff aide to President George Washington. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. and a big supporter of the Constitution. Hamilton was also the Secretary of Treasury, and he helped create the nation's financial system and first bank. Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin, another Founding Father, was not only a politician, but he was also a scientist and an inventor. Franklin is known for his research in electricity and the lightning rod, along with inventing bifocals and the Franklin stove. As a politician, he pushed for independence from England in his call for colonial unity among the 13 colonies. Because of this, he has been called "the First American." |
