Goal:

Let's take a little tour of our beautiful country.

We will begin in California.

Golden Gate Bridge

This is the Golden Gate Bridge. It is man-made. This means humans made it.

Golden Gate Bridge under construction

It was not there before humans built it.

Redwood trees in California

These are the famous Redwood trees. Wow! Those trees are so tall! This forest is natural. This means these trees grew naturally. Humans did not build the trees.

Let's go to South Dakota and see if you can figure out which landmark is man-made and which is natural.

Two pictures. First picture is of Mount Rushmore and the second picture is of Badlands, South Dakota.

The first picture is Mount Rushmore. The second is a picture of the Badlands. Which one do you think is manmade and which one do you think is natural? In other words, which one did humans build and which happened naturally?

Female construction worker with plans in her hand next to Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore is man-made. Dynamite was used to carve the presidents' faces in the mountain. Humans did this so it is called man-made.

Badlands, South Dakota

The Badlands of South Dakota are natural. The Badlands were formed by wind and water over time. Humans did not build these, nature did.

You are doing great! Click on the arrow to learn more about man-made versus natural.
