writing walrusaudio buttonToday, we will write the first draft of a poem about winter. What do you want to write about? Do you want your poem to rhyme? Take a look at your brainstorming worksheet for ideas.

Poetry is descriptive. When we write poetry, we use words to describe something. Poetry is made up of one or more stanzas, which are similar to paragraphs in stories. Each stanza expresses one main idea. When all of the stanzas are combined, they form a poem that describes a place, event, person, or feeling.

Write the first draft of your poem.

You can decide if you would like to handwrite or type your first draft. Choose what works best for you. Save your draft in a safe place--we'll be working on it again tomorrow.
