Arithmetic Number Patterns
What is an arithmetic number pattern?
Goal:
Goal:
An arithmetic number pattern is a list of numbers written as a sequence. For example, look at this number pattern: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20. Each of the numbers in the sequence is called a term. In an arithmetic sequence, the terms in the sequence change by the same amount each time.
Look at the examples in the chart. Try to find the next number in the sequence. Then, click each pattern to reveal the answer.
| Pattern | What's next? |
| Example 1: What is the next term in this arithmetic sequence? 5, 10, 15, 20… | The next term is 25. The pattern is "add 5." |
| Example 2: What is the next term in this arithmetic sequence? 2, 10, 18, 26… | The next term is 34. The pattern is "add 8." |
| Example 3: What is the next term in this arithmetic sequence? 50, 43, 36, 29… | The next term is 22. The pattern is "subtract 7." |
