Music was an important part of life in early America. Many popular folk songs came from the frontier and pioneer days, and many of these songs tell of the struggles people encountered in the new land.
Some popular songs of the era were She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain and Skip to My Lou. See if you can find the lyrics to the two folk songs. You might even find some sheet music that will allow you to play them on an instrument.
