James Cook from England and his crew landed on the Hawaiian Islands, which he called the Sandwich Islands after the Earl of Sandwich. He continued exploring the Pacific Ocean and later encountered the continent of Australia. Cook was an expert cartographer (someone who draws maps), and he created the first accurate map of the Pacific Ocean. Cook traveled thousands of miles and mapped more territory and land than any other explorer of his time.
