We are growing as writers!
We know how to tell things when we draw. We can draw settings, characters, and events.
Now, as we’re learning our letters and sounds, we’re ready for…Ear Spelling!
You know how to use your ears to listen to music and your friends.
Now let’s use our ears to spell!
We say the word out loud that we want to spell and listen for any sounds that we know the letters for.
To label this picture, we need to ear spell. What sounds do you hear in the word, mat?
What letters make those sounds?
You would write those letters under the mat.
Now, what sounds do you hear in the word, cat?
What letters make those sounds?
Those are the letters you would write by the cat to label it.
But wait, what if I don’t know all the letters for the sounds I hear?
What if I get some letters wrong?
That’s okay! We want to be independent spellers so we learn and grow as we go!
It’s time to practice our Ear Spelling!
