Let’s talk about where the words and pictures in our books come from.
The words of a book come from an author. Say that with me - author.
An author is someone who thinks of a story or a topic and writes the words for it.
You are an author when you write your own stories, too.
The pictures in books are created by an illustrator. Say that word with me - illustrator.
The pictures in books are called illustrations.
You are an illustrator when you draw your own pictures, too.
Let’s look at a book we’ve read this year to see where we find the names of the authors and illustrators.
Under the title we see the words, “Written by” and the name of the author.

The author is the person who writes the words to the story.
