Complete the following activity to get started learning about Newton's Second Law of Motion. You will need to download the car data table to record your data.
- Set up a ramp using a piece of cardboard and several books.
- Place a toy car at the top of your ramp and roll it down the ramp. Do not push the car just let it go.
- Use a meter stick and measure how far the vehicle rolls.
- Record your results in the car data table.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for a second and third trial
- Add five washers to the vehicle and repeat steps 2-5.
- Add ten washers to the car and repeat steps 2-5.
Look at your data. How does increasing the mass of your car (by adding more washers) affect how far the car rolls (the force the car has).
