This lab activity involves speed and acceleration of chewing bubble gum. You will write a lab report on this activity.
You will need a piece of bubble gum and the bubble gum data table to complete this lab.
Part A Chomper challenge
- For this experiment, you will conduct five trials be determine the number of chomps you can do in 30 seconds.
- Use a stopwatch to determine the number of chomps you can do in 30 seconds.
- Record your data in chart A.
- Repeat step 2 and 3 for five trials.
- Calculate your average speed for each trial, then overall.
Part B: Speedy Chompers
- Use a stopwatch to determine the number of chomps you can do in 1 minute. As the time reaches each point.
- Record your data in table B
- Calculate your chomping speed at each point (20 seconds, 40 seconds, and 60 seconds) using the data from your experiment.
- Record your data in table C.
In your conclusion include:
- the number of chomps you could do in five minutes, one hour or one day based on your average chomping speed.
- Did you maintain a constant chew rate in part B or did you accelerate?
