En Hedu’Anna (circa 2354 B.C.E) was a Sumerian Astronomer.

En Hedu'Anna Priestess of the Moon Goddess, En Hedu’Anna lived in Sumeria. She was the daughter of the ruler Sargon who established the Argonian Dynasty in Babylon over 4,000 years ago. Her position was very powerful, as only through her could a leader achieve a lawful claim to rule.

Modern astronomy and mathematics began around En Hedu'Anna's time. Forward growth in both fields flowed directly from Sumeria. She was the head of a sacred temple where priests and priestesses monitored the movements of the stars from a network of observatories. They created a calendar which is still in use for determining religious holy days such as Easter and Passover.

She is also important because we often overlook the contributions women have made to science. Astronomy is an area of science where women have not only been allowed to work, but have been welcomed throughout time.

En Hedu’Anna represents the first in a long line of women who followed the stars. They thought about, created, and improved their world and ours. She was the first known scientist to follow the movement of the moon and stars.
