Plain text formatting.

When getting your assessment questions ready for import, the first place to start is formatting. Assessment questions are put in respondus formatting. This formatting is very particulate and things like missing spaces, double spaces or extra line breaks will "break" the formatting and the question will not import properly.

Below are the most used assessment types, their components, and their needed format. These are plain text examples with no special text, images or documents. Click through each tab to see each format broken down by section and any additional information about the question type itself.

Sometimes, you will see a request for individual feedback to each answer selection. When this happens, the formatting should be as follows.

MC - multiple feedback

(MT) Matching questions are used sparingly. Most commonly they are used for vocabulary words, or foreign language translations. Spacing is particularly important with this question type so be sure to double check your formatting. For this question type, feedback isn't always provided.

MT - no feedback

(E) Essay questions are sometimes referred to as free response questions. This style of question prompts students to type an answer into a text field and has many applications.
