Lesson, Module & Semester Exams

Importing Quizzes and Exams can be tricky. No matter what grade level or subject you work on, you will be formatting and uploading assessment questions. In all cases, feedback is used to provide additional instruction to the students. This resource will help you understand proper formatting for assessment questions, from simple to complex.

Our delivery system to the students will scramble all questions and scramble all answer choices, so each question should be treated as a stand-alone question. If you see “all the above” or “none of the above,” please reach out to the Instructional Designer or change the question to multiple-answer (if appropriate). This question type will not work in some of the LMS platforms, where we deliver content.

Assessment Types

When uploading quizzes and exams into the CMS, please note the following:

Formative exams (Quizzes) appear after the lesson is complete.

Summative exam questions (Module exam) won't be seen until students complete the entire module. (They will all be compiled into one Module exam.)

Semester exam questions are for the final exam for the course. Students won't see these until the end of the semester. (They will all be compiled into one Semester exam.)

Quizzes are formative assessments that are given to students at the lesson level. These questions are 100% computer-scored. The question types we allow are multiple-choice (MC), multiple-answer (MA), and matching (MT). We avoid True/False and we do not use fill-in-the-blank (FIB) at all (the systems are not all created equal in grading, and quite often FIB questions are unfairly or incorrectly scored).

Exams typically include a mixture of MC and Essay (E) questions. Each module exam pulls questions from each of the lessons within the module. Each semester exam pulls questions from all lessons across all modules within the course.
