Now that you know how to use the polite forms voudrais and puis-je, let’s review the present-tense conjugations of these verbs, vouloir (to want) and pouvoir (to be able to).
Both of these verbs are irregular, but they are conjugated very similarly. Take a moment to review their conjugations:

Notice how you hear the l-sound with veulent and the v-sound with peuvent.
Remember, when asking can I or may I, you use puis instead of peux.

Maman et Papa! Pouvez-vous m’acheter des bonbons? [Why does the speaker use Pouvez-vous instead of Puis-je? Because the question is Can you buy me,… not May I have...]
Mon frère veut étudier à l’université à Chicago. [This is not an order or a request, so veut is used.]
Elles peuvent offrir une remise pour les pâtisseries du matin. [Can you tell what this sentence means? They may offer a discount on pastries from the morning.]
