Can you introduce yourself and your friends?

Journal

You’ve had quite a lot of practice with the French expressions for introducing yourself and asking the names of others. Now you will introduce yourself and two friends or cousins. The French word for a friend is un ami for a male and une amie for a female. Do you remember how to say I have in French?

J’ai

So, you can say J’ai une amie. Elle s’appelle… or J’ai un ami. Il s’appelle… You’ve also seen that the word cousin is a cognate in French. So, you could choose to introduce a cousin and tell us his or her name, too.

First, locate your file containing this module’s journal assignment. Paste the prompt below at the end of the document and label the entry with this lesson’s title. Then, type a response to the prompt.

Write the expression used to ask someone their name and the two expressions to ask someone else’s name (his and her) in French.
Write a sentence telling us your name in French using the expression Je m’appelle.
Write two sentences telling us the name of a friend or cousin. For example:

  • J’ai un cousin. Il s’appelle George.
  • J’ai une amie. Elle s’appelle Amy.

When you have written a complete and detailed answer to the journal prompt, save the file so that you can open it again for the next lesson with a journal assignment. (You will submit your journal to your teacher for grading later in the module.)

You have completed all the activities and journal assignments for this lesson. Bien fait! Continue to the next slide to see if you are prepared for the lesson quiz.
