Madelyn's mom sent her to the Cheese Shop after school to pick up some sliced cheese for a party. Little did Madelyn know that a ninja would be helping her slice the cheese! Watch the video below to see how Madelyn gets the ninja to cut cheese blocks into different equal parts.
Madelyn's mom sent her to the Cheese Shop to pick up some cheese slices for a party. When Madelyn enters, she doesn't see anyone to help her.
Suddenly, a ninja appears! Madelyn is shocked. After she calms down, she asks if the ninja could slice some cheese for her. The ninja looks at her and nods.
Madelyn grabs a square block of cheese and asks the ninja if he could slice it into 8 equal pieces. Before Madelyn can say anything else, the ninja throws the cheese up in the air and slices it.
Madelyn looks at the cheese and says, “Thanks…but my mom wanted it sliced into triangles.” The ninja stares a Madelyn for a few seconds and then in the blink of an eye, he grabs another block of cheese, throws it in the air, and slices it again.
“That's perfect!” Madelyn exclaims. “Each triangle is \(\Large\frac{1}{8}\) of the cheese, just like mom wanted!”
Madelyn then hands the ninja a rectangular block of cheese. She asks the ninja if he could slice it into 10 equal pieces. Before Madelyn can say anything else, the ninja throws the cheese up in the air and slices it.
Madelyn looks at the cheese and says, “Sorry to do this to you again, but my mom wanted these to be sliced into smaller cubes, not long rectangles.” The ninja stares a Madelyn for a few seconds and then in the blink of an eye, he grabs another block of cheese, throws it in the air, and slices it again.
“Yes, each cube is \(\Large\frac{1}{10}\)th of the cheese, just like mom wanted!” Madelyn exclaims. “Thank you!”
Madelyn then hands the ninja a circular piece of cheese. She asks the ninja if he could slice it into 6 equal pieces. Instead of slicing the cheese, the ninja just stares at Madelyn waiting for more instructions. Madelyn smiles and says, “Go ahead, there is only 1 way to slice a circle into 6 equal pieces.” So in the blink of an eye the ninja throws the cheese into the air and slices it!
“Yes, exactly like that!” Madelyn exclaims. “Each piece is \(\Large\frac{1}{6}\) th of the cheese!”
“Well, that was not what I expected when I walked into that shop” Madelyn thought to herself as she walked out the door. “I never expected a ninja to be running a Cheese Shop! You learn something new every day!”
