Circle the digit in the tens place. This is the digit that will stay the same or grow by 1.

If the digit in the ones place is 4 or less, we round down to the nearest 10. If the digit in the ones place is 5 or more, we round up to the nearest 10. Say this poem to help you remember:

4 or less, let it rest.
5 or more, add 1 more.
