Estimate Using Centimeters and Meters Video

Trevor has a few new toys in his playroom! He wants to find the perfect places to store them. Let’s help Trevor estimate the length of each toy so he can put them away!

Today Trevor will be estimating in centimeters and meters. Centimeters are small, like the width of a pencil, and meters are large, like the length of a longboard. Estimations are not exact measurements, so pencils and longboards are great tools to help us guess!

Here is Trevor’s new pogo stick. I wonder how tall it is. Do you think the pogo stick is about 1 meter tall, about 4 meters tall, or about 15 meters tall?

Yes! The pogo stick is about 1 meter tall, or about the height of one longboard!

Next up is this yoyo. The yoyo is small, so let’s estimate its length in centimeters. About how many centimeters long is this yoyo: 2 centimeters, 6 centimeters, or 45 centimeters?

Good thinking! The yoyo is about 6 centimeters long, or about the width of 6 pencils.

Look at this ball! Can you help Trevor estimate how wide the ball is? Do you think it’s about 4 cm wide, 7 centimeters wide, or 25 centimeters wide?

You’re right! The ball is about 25 centimeters wide, or about the width of 25 pencils.

The only toy left is this beautiful kite. Its tail is so long! Do you think this kite is about 1 meter long, about 3 meters long, or about 6 meters long?

Remember, a meter is about the same length as a longboard.
