Oh, no! Plastic and other garbage is ending up in the oceans, and it is hurting animals. Ms. Mariposa’s class wants to find a way to help. Learn about what they choose to do and how you can help in this video.
Ms. Mariposa and her class are learning about ecosystems
and how all the living and nonliving things in the ocean
are important to keep the ocean healthy. Today, they are
watching a video about what happens when the ocean isn’t
healthy.
Plastic and other trash is becoming a big problem in the
oceans.
Sometimes, plastic looks like food to animals. Animals can
get tangled in it or eat it and die.
Trash washes up on the sand and is bad for humans and
other animals that live near the shore too.
The kids in Ms. Mariposa’s class don’t like what they see,
so they agree they want to do something to get involved.
But what can they do?
Maddie has an idea. She can stop using plastics, like water
bottles, drinking straws, plastic bags, and food
containers.
Maddie and Peter make a list of the things they can use
instead: reusable water bottles and lunch boxes, paper
straws, and tote bags for groceries.
Enrique and Rosie want to help, too. They decide to help
Ms. Mariposa organize a field trip to clean up a beach
nearby. They want to make sure no animals think trash is
food.
Kiara and Oliver also have an idea. They want to share
what they know with their school and community.
They decide to make posters to hang around the school with
phrases like “say no to plastic.”
Principal Lively is so impressed with everything the class
has done, he decides to help on the field trip, too!
What will you do to help protect the oceans?
