Emailing, texting, and direct messaging are examples of communication using technology. Communicating this way is faster and more convenient than waiting for letters in the mail or driving to someone's house. However, what is the downside? Not being face-to-face means the message can be easily misunderstood. Social media (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) is a way to communicate using technology. It became popular in the early 2000s with Myspace and Facebook. Anyone with an account can post a message or image and others can comment on it. Social media helps users expand their circle of friends and find things in common. However, communicating on social media can cause people to be more aggressive or bold than they would be in person. Also, without a face-to-face connection, emotions and intentions are hard to read accurately.

Communicating with technology has its advantages. Advances in technology make communication faster, easier and lots of fun. Before the digital age, letters sent would take days or weeks to reach the recipient. A phone call was good, but you could not see the person. Now in an instant you can send a message or "call" a person and see them in real time! Sending emojis or creating a funny video to make a friend laugh just takes a few clicks.
