What are symbols, mottos and landmarks?
Have you ever heard someone say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?” It is a saying which means that if things go wrong, try to make good come out of it somehow. This type of saying is called a motto. A motto is a special saying that tells what people believe in.
Our country has a motto, too. The national motto is “In God We Trust.” This motto was signed into law by President Eisenhower in 1956. You can find the national motto on our coins.
Each of the states in the United States has a motto. They also have state symbols and landmarks that make them different. A symbol is a picture that stands for something else. A landmark is a special place that visitors go to see. Can you guess which one is a motto, symbol, and landmark before you click it? Click each image to see how you do!
