We have already spent some time learning about how technology has changed over time. Let’s review some examples of technology in the past and current technology. Click the tabs to remember what we learned!

Transportation has changed from the beginning of time! First, people walked to get from place to place. Then, people started riding to make transportation faster. Look at the pictures below and put them in order from past transportation to current transportation.

A horse drawn carriage.
A car from the mid 1900s.
An airplane flying in the sky.
Drag and drop the items into the correct order from top (first) to bottom (last).

Great work! You can see how technology has changed how we travel.

Just like technology has made traveling easier, it has made communication easier, too! The tools we have now to communicate allow us to do more than in the past. Look at the picture of a phone in the past, then click it to see how we communicate today.

An old rotary telephone.
A modern smartphone.

Phones in the past allowed people to make phone calls. Now, we can make phone calls, but we can also use our phones to check the weather, send text messages, use the Internet, play games, order groceries, and much more!

Recreation includes anything we do to play or relax. Technology has changed this part of our lives, too! Before computers were invented, children played without screens. A game of jacks was a common way for children to have fun. Ask your grandparents if they know how to play jacks! Click the jacks below to see a common way that children play today.

Old toys that were called jacks.
Kids playing video games.

Kids can use screens to play today. Video games weren’t invented in the past, so children didn’t have that option. While kids today can use screens to play, playing non-screen games or playing outside is still very important! And it is still so much fun!
