Aquatics - Treading Water - Egg Beater Kick
Goal:
Goal:
Click through the slides below to learn to move the arms and legs together to stay in one place, while keeping the head above water. The legs will be moved in circles, like an egg beater.

Technique:
- When first learning this skill, a pool noodle can be used.
- Try to stay relaxed. Tensing up will make it more difficult.
- Hold head high and tipped back a little.
- Arm Movement - You will need to move your arms to help you stay afloat.
- Sculling:
- Move your arms out in front of you.
- Slightly bend at the elbow.
- Hold fingers together and cup your hands.
- Move your arms and hands back and forth through the water, like you are frosting a cake.
- Leg Movement - Kicking your legs will help you keep your head above the water.
- Egg Beater Kick:
- Bend your knees.
- Move your feet in circles going in opposite directions, like an egg beater.
Skill Activities:
- Practice the kick out of the water until you are comfortable.
- Sit on the side of the pool and practice your kick.
- See how long you can tread water.
- Challenge a friend to see who can tread water longer.
