Aquatics - Back Float

Hitting Grip

Technique:

  • If you are just learning this skill, have an adult help you. They can put their hands under your back until you are comfortable.
  • Hold your arms out to the side, like an airplane.
  • Take a big breath and relax your body.
  • Slowly lay your head back into the water.
  • Let your feet float up to the top of the water. You can keep them close to each other or spread them out so you look like a star.
  • Breathe slowly and stay relaxed. Tensing will make your body sink.

Skill Activities:

  • See how long you can stay afloat.
  • Challenge a friend to see who can float longer.
