While learning takes place in lots of different ways, one of the most effective is through live, face-to-face meetings with your teachers and fellow students. Whether it’s a 1 on 1 session, a small group lesson, a synchronized seminar, or office hours with your instructor, your online course gives you lots of opportunities to learn and have fun using video conferencing.
Your privacy is important to us, which is why online programs ask all students in Kindergarten through 7th grade file a consent form before participating in live sessions. Check your school email for a letter similar to this Accelerate Synch Sessions Letter to Parents for more info.
Once you’ve filled out your consent form, you’ll receive a confirmation email showing that you’re all ready for live sessions.
If you have any questions, ask your teacher
Many live sessions take place using Zoom, which is free to use and works on all types of devices. Please visit support.zoom.us for help with joining meetings, setting up your audio/video devices, and more. We recommend that students wear headphones during live sessions for better sound quality.
Just like any classroom, your virtual sessions have standards of behavior and etiquette to keep the learning environment positive and distraction-free. When you log in, please use your first name and last initial, no other information or nicknames should be used. Don’t share personal info with other students, such as your phone number or gamer ID.
Try to attend your live sessions from a quiet room, and keep all family, friends, and pets out of view of your video camera.
Finally, be polite and patient, participate actively, and use all collaboration tools in ways that support everyone’s learning goals.
One of the hardest things for students and learning coaches to keep track of is their live session schedules. With so many different classes, teachers, and times, it’s easy to get confused about when your live sessions are happening each week.
Check your email and your school announcements regularly, and keep an eye out for any updates on live sessions. Your teacher might also add their live session or office hours schedule to the main page of your course.
Consider using a calendar app to remind you of upcoming live sessions so you don’t miss out.
Be sure to take advantage of your online school’s live sessions to get the most out of this year’s academic adventure!
