Let's Watch!
Goal: Watch this video to learn how to compare and analyze data on a line graph.
Zoe helps the project manager research the average temperature during the months that they are going to be doing the construction, August, September, and October. She marked the average temperature for each week of those months and made a line graph. We will help Zoe and the project manager decide which weeks to complete the construction.
Zoe helps the project manager research average temperatures during the months that they are going to be doing construction: August, September, and October.
She marks the average temperature for each week of these months and makes a line graph.
Let's look at the line graph and list what we know from the labels.
The title of this line graph is Average Temperature.
The temperature is measured in degrees Fahrenheit.
And data for twelve weeks was recorded.
If we look a little closer, we can see the average temperature each week.
In Week 1 the average temperature was 86 degrees.
Week 2 had an average temperature of 85 degrees.
We will continue to label the values on the chart until all points are labelled.
Now that we have labeled all the points, we can analyze the data to help the project manager.
Which week had the highest temperature?
Week 3 had the highest temperature with 90 degrees as its average.
Which week had the lowest temperature?
Weeks 7 and 12 have the lowest temperature with an average of 70 degrees.
Which temperature occurred the most often?
70 degrees!
Let’s see which weeks are best to complete the construction outside.
The project manager says that temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees are best.
Which weeks are in this range of temperature?
Weeks 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9!
Now that Zoe has helped find the best weeks to work outside, the project can start!
Question
What does the direction of the line graph say about the change in temperature over time?
