Introduction: Parts of a Seed

Have you ever soaked a bean in some water for a few days? A little green spout begins to appear. It might look something like this.

That bean is a seed. A seed is the small, hard part of a plant from which a new plant grows. It has three parts. Study the picture below.

All plants grow from seeds. When the seed starts to grow, it’s called germination. Plants germinate when they start to grow from a seed.
