Mateo and his fellow firefighters have a lot to do today! Can you help them figure out how much time has gone by and how long things will take? Watch the video to help them plan their day.
This is Firehouse #301’s firetruck off to answer a call for help.
It was 8:30 am when Mateo and the firefighters arrive on the scene.
The forest fire has to be extinguished fast! Mateo tells his men to grab the hose and get to work.
When the fire is put out, Mateo checks his watch. The firefighters started at 8:30 and now it is 11:30. How much time has elapsed? What is 11 minus 8? Yes, three hours have elapsed.
The firefighters are hungry. They drive back to their firehouse for lunch.
What time is it when they get back? Good, it’s 12:00. Is it 12:00 in the afternoon or in the morning? Yes, it’s the afternoon! We eat lunch in the afternoon.
It takes the firefighters one hour to make lunch, eat it, and clean the dishes.
What time is it now? Good job, it is 1:00 in the afternoon.
Mateo has to do paperwork about the forest fire. It takes 1 hour. What time does he finish? What is 1 plus 1?
You are right again! It is 2:00.
Firefighter Mateo needs some water and a snack. How long will it take him to go to the kitchen and get a glass of water and an apple? Will it take 5 minutes or 20 minutes?
Good! It will only take 5 minutes to prepare his snack. How long will it take him to eat it? Will it take 10 minutes or 40 minutes?
