Let’s watch a video about telling time by 5!
Watch the video to meet Clive the Bee and learn about time by fives.
Hi! I’m Clive the Bee and this is my beehive. It is very special inside. Come and take a
look.
My colony of bees likes to make honey every five minutes. If you can count by five, you
can tell time by five, too. Before we begin, let’s practice counting the bees in my
colony by fives.
5…10…15…20…25…30…35…40…45…50…55…60.
Excellent! There are 60 bees in my colony and they are ready to make honey. We can fill
12 cells of honey comb every hour. Help me tell time for the next hour. Let’s
go!
What time is it now? Good, it is 12:00. Every time the minute hand touches a new number,
five minutes have gone by. Let’s say the time by counting by fives.
12:05
12:10
12:15 or quarter past 12
12:20
12:25
12:30 or half-past 12
12:35
12:40
12:45 or quarter til 1
12:50
12:55
1:00
That’s an hour!
Our colony made delicious honey every five minutes.
Maybe the next time you have honey, it will be from my beehive!
What time is it ?
What time is on the clock?
Incorrect. A clock that says 2:15 would have the minute hand pointing at the 3. Keep counting by 5s two more times to reach the 5 on the clock.
Correct!
