Whoa! He sees a family of sardines. They are coming fast toward him! He briefly checks his analog wristwatch for the time.
Can you help Logan read the time he sees? First, let’s identify the hands of the clock. The long hand is the minute hand, and the short hand is the hour hand. On Logan’s watch, the hour hand is between 7 and 8. We take the hour before, so the hour hand is on the 7. The minute hand is on 9.
Logan skip counts by 5s starting at the number 1 to figure out how many minutes have passed 7 o’clock. He counts by 5 nine times. The minute hand is at 45 minutes past 7. The time is 7:45.
Logan checks his time using his digital wristwatch. The time shows 7:45 a.m. He knows a.m. is before noon, and it’s still early morning!
