When you exercise your heart beats faster. Your heart rate is the number of times your heart beats in a minute. Your heart is working harder when you exercise to deliver blood to your muscles.

Your target heart rate is the beats per minute your heart should be working when exercising. The intensity level of your workout is determined by your target heart rate.

Resting heart rate is the number of beats per minute when you are not exercising. At rest, your heart rate should be less than 100 beats per minute.
