Short Jump Rope - One Foot
Goal:
Goal:
Click through the slides below to learn to turn a jump rope and jump over it with each turn while balancing on one foot.
Technique:
- Practice:
- Hold an end of the jump rope in each hand.
- Put each hand to each side of your body. Spin the rope in a circle.
- Jump when you hear the rope hit the ground.
- When ready, hold hands to either side of the body.
- Start with the rope touching the ground behind your feet.
- Spin the rope up over your head and around your body.
- Jump over the rope when it hits the ground.
- Continue to spin the rope and jump.
Different jumps you can try with your jump rope:
- Double jump:
- You will have a small bounce between jumps over the rope.
- Single jump:
- Only jump when going over the rope.
- One-foot jump:
- Jump over the rope while balancing on one foot.
- Criss-cross:

- As the rope swings in front of you, cross your arms in front of you and jump over the rope.
- Backward swing:
(advanced)
- Swing the rope backwards and jump over the rope.
Skill Activities:
- Count how many times in a row you can jump the rope.
- Have a contest with a friend.
- Try jumping the rope while you turn it as fast as you can.
