Logan's robot has measured 2 sides of the pool. This is the word problem Logan created:
A robot measured a rectangular pool. The length of the pool is 164 feet long and the width is 82 feet long. What is the perimeter of the pool?
How do we find the perimeter when we know only 2 sides of the rectangle?
Perimeter is the distance around a shape. We can find the perimeter by adding all the sides of the pool together. Here is what we know so far:
- The length of the pool is 164 feet long.
- The width of the pool is 82 feet long.
Length is the measurement of a shape from top to bottom, and width is the measurement from side to side.
There's one more part of the word problem that is very important: the pool is a rectangle! Rectangles have lengths that are the same size and widths that are the same size.
That means both long sides (lengths) of the pool are 164 ft., and both short sides (widths) are 82 ft.
Now that we have all the information we need, let’s find the perimeter!
