Oliver and his school friends are exploring with magnets today. Let’s see what they find out.
When an object is magnetic, it will be attracted to the magnet. When an object is not
magnetic, it won’t be attracted to the magnet. Let’s see what the kids discover in their
experiment.
First, Maddie picks up a paper clip. She makes a prediction. Do you think the paper clip will be
magnetic and stick to the magnet?
The paper clip does stick to the magnet. It’s magnetic!
Next, Oliver wants to test a crayon. What do you think he will find out?
That’s right! A crayon is not magnetic. It won’t stick to the magnet.
Enrique is up next with some wood building blocks. Do you think the magnet will attract the
blocks?
Right again! The wooden blocks are not magnetic.
Kiara wants to try the scissors next. Will the scissors be attracted to the magnet?
Yes! The scissors are magnetic and stick to the magnet.
The magnetic objects were both made of metal. The students wonder if all types of metal are
magnetic. That will be the next thing they explore!
