Magnets are made of a metal called iron.
Magnets have two sides called poles. One pole is north, and the other is south, just like on Earth.
You can do a lot of exploring with magnets. Find some magnets. Try moving two magnets close to each other. What happens?
Magnets can do two things to other magnets, attract and repel. When something is attracted to a magnet, it sticks to the magnet. When something is repelled, it pushes away from the magnet. When magnets are placed together, opposite poles (north and south) attract. Same poles (north and north or south and south) repel.
You can use a magnet to move another magnet without touching it. Explore different ways to do this. Put a piece of paper between the magnet and the object. Can you move the object with the magnet? Now, try putting something else between the magnet and an object. Can you move the object with the magnet?
