Question

What connections can you make between these ancient religions and the religions still practiced today? What role do you think geography played in the spread of religions?

Throughout history, people sought relationships with the supreme beings they believed in. For this reason, numerous ancient religions still exist today. The exceptions are the Greek and early Roman polytheistic religions. Geographically, you will notice that all of these religions were founded in areas where the largest civilizations and empires also emerged. This is no small wonder since religion is intimately connected to people. Part of the reason these religions are still practiced today is because they were founded in regions with dense populations and were often woven into the laws of the states. Over time, tradition, history, and culture solidified the importance of these religions in the lives of the people.
