How can you determine the magnification and image location quantitatively?

So far, you've seen how ray diagrams can be used to determine if the image is real or virtual, and to estimate the image location and size. You can also find these things out quantitatively using the mirror equations. Watch the video to find out more about the image location and magnification equations.

Question

Positive and negative signs in these equations are essential. What does a negative location mean? What does a negative magnification mean? What does a negative height mean?

A negative location means that the image is behind the mirror. A negative magnification means the image is inverted (upside down). A negative height also means that the image is inverted.
